In Congolese culture, pregnancies outside of marriage lead to the abandonment of the girl by the perpetrator and release for some families of the girl, school dropout and low community consideration. This is a result of poor sex education but also sexual and gender-based violence education for young girls and boys which would prevent many early pregnancies. To support themselves and their babies, some of them turn to prostitution and others to social ills.
Professional training, particularly in cutting and sewing to facilitate the socio-professional integration of these young girls, remains among the best solutions offered by the organization Action des Volontaires d’Innovation pour le Développement, AVID to these dozens of girls.
